  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons TABASCO® Sauce (original)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup vegetable oil

For the Chicken Fried Steak Gravy:

  • 4 tablespoons grease
  • 4 tablespoons flour
  • 2 to 3 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken Fried Steak: In a shallow bowl, mix flour, 1 tsp black pepper, 1 tsp salt, paprika, onion powder, garlic powder, baking soda, and baking powder. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, TABASCO® Sauce, and eggs. Pat steaks dry, season with salt and pepper, dredge in flour mixture, then buttermilk mixture, and flour mixture again. Press remaining flour onto steaks and let sit.
  2. Fry the Steaks: Heat oil in a skillet, fry steaks for 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and keep warm in the oven.
  3. Make the Gravy: Reserve grease in skillet, whisk in flour until golden. Gradually add milk and cream, whisking constantly until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. Serve: Enjoy the chicken fried steak with gravy, mashed potatoes, and veggies.
