BBQ Sauce Mixture

  • 1 1/2 cups BBQ Sauce (Sweet Baby Rays Honey BBQ recommended)
  • 1/2 medium onion, grated with juice
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar


Instructions

  1. Prepare the sauce: In a 5-6 quart slow cooker, combine the BBQ sauce, grated onion with juice, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar. Stir thoroughly to mix all the ingredients well.
  2. Add the chicken: Place the boneless, skinless chicken breasts into the slow cooker and turn them to coat evenly with the BBQ sauce mixture.
  3. Cook the chicken: Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 2 to 3 hours, or on low for 6 to 7 hours. If using smaller chicken pieces, a smaller batch, or a slow cooker that runs hot, check the chicken earlier. The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F and is tender enough to shred easily.
  4. Shred the chicken: Remove the cooked chicken breasts to a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the chicken finely.
  5. Coat the shredded chicken: Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and stir it well to coat with the remaining BBQ sauce. Serve warm as is or in buns with your favorite sides.
