Ingredients
Scale
Sausage Mixture
- 8 oz. regular bulk pork sausage
- 1/2 cup chive and onion cream cheese spread
Dough
- 1 (8-oz.) can crescent rolls
Optional
- Dijon mustard, for dipping
Instructions
- Cook the Sausage: Preheat your oven to 375°F. In a medium nonstick skillet over medium-high heat, crumble the bulk pork sausage with a wooden spoon and cook until fully browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a medium bowl and let cool slightly for about 5 minutes.
- Mix in Cream Cheese: Add the chive and onion cream cheese spread to the cooked sausage and stir thoroughly until the mixture is fully combined and creamy.
- Prepare the Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it into a 12-inch by 9-inch rectangle. Firmly press the perforations in the dough to seal them and then cut the dough into 24 equal 2-inch by 2-inch squares.
- Fill and Shape Bundles: Spoon about 1 heaping teaspoon of the sausage and cream cheese mixture onto the center of each dough square. Bring the four corners of each square together to slightly overlap in the center, then twist and pinch the dough to seal each bundle securely.
- Bake: Arrange the sealed bundles on an ungreased baking sheet, making sure to space them evenly. Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes until they turn golden brown and the dough is cooked through.
- Serve: Serve warm with Dijon mustard on the side if desired for dipping.
Notes
- Be sure to press the crescent roll perforations firmly to prevent the filling from leaking out during baking.
- Allow the sausage mixture to cool slightly before mixing with cream cheese to prevent melting and a runny filling.
- For a spicier version, add some crushed red pepper flakes to the sausage mixture.
- These bundles can be made ahead and baked just before serving for convenience.
