Description

These Meatball Sub Bites are a delightful vegan appetizer featuring crescent roll dough filled with marinara sauce, vegan mozzarella, and savory vegan meatballs. Baked to golden perfection and garnished with fresh basil, they make a perfect crowd-pleasing snack or party treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Dough

  • 1 8-ounce sheet of crescent roll dough

Fillings

  • ½ cup marinara sauce, divided, plus more for serving
  • ½ cup vegan mozzarella shreds, divided
  • 12 premade vegan meatballs, thawed if frozen

Garnish

  • Fresh minced basil for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375° F (190° C) to prepare for baking the bites.
  2. Prepare Dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough sheet onto a clean, lightly floured surface. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into 12 equal squares arranged in 3 rows and 4 columns.
  3. Line Cupcake Tin: Lightly grease a cupcake tin and press each dough square into an individual cup, forming a small dough cup.
  4. Add Fillings: Place 2 teaspoons of marinara sauce into each dough cup, followed by 2 teaspoons of vegan mozzarella shreds. Nestle one vegan meatball into each dough cup on top of the cheese and sauce layer. Then, add a couple more teaspoons of marinara and more vegan mozzarella over each meatball.
  5. Bake: Place the cupcake tin in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 13 minutes, or until the dough is light golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Cool and Garnish: Remove the tin from the oven and let the bites cool at room temperature for 5 minutes. Garnish each bite with fresh minced basil.
  7. Serve: Serve your Meatball Sub Bites warm, accompanied by extra marinara sauce for dipping, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Make sure the vegan meatballs are thawed completely before assembling for even cooking.
  • Lightly flouring the surface prevents the crescent dough from sticking while cutting.
  • You can substitute vegan mozzarella with your favorite plant-based cheese shreds.
  • These bites are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated.
