Description

Maple Mustard Glazed Chicken is a quick and flavorful one-skillet dinner featuring juicy chicken breasts glazed with a sweet and tangy maple syrup and stone-ground mustard sauce. Perfectly balanced with fresh thyme and garlic, this dish is ideal for a cozy fall meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves (4-6 ounces each)
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Glaze and Sauce

  • 1/3 cup low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 2 teaspoons chopped fresh thyme, divided
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon stone-ground mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare skillet: Preheat your oven to 400°F (204°C). Heat a large, ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat to get it ready for searing the chicken.
  2. Brown the chicken: Add olive oil to the hot skillet. Season the chicken breasts evenly with salt and pepper. Place the chicken in the pan and cook for 2 minutes on each side until nicely browned.
  3. Remove chicken: Take the browned chicken out of the skillet and set aside to prepare the sauce.
  4. Make the glaze base: Add chicken broth, pure maple syrup, 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme, and minced garlic to the skillet. Bring the mixture to a boil, scraping the browned bits from the bottom to incorporate flavor. Cook for 2 minutes, stirring often.
  5. Add vinegar and mustard: Stir in the cider vinegar and stone-ground mustard, cooking for another minute while stirring frequently to blend all flavors.
  6. Combine chicken and sauce: Return the chicken breasts to the skillet, including any juices that collected. Spoon the sauce over the chicken evenly.
  7. Bake the chicken: Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  8. Finish the sauce: Remove the chicken from the skillet. Place the skillet back on medium heat and cook the sauce for 2 minutes until it thickens to a syrupy consistency. Watch carefully as it thickens quickly.
  9. Serve: Pour the thickened sauce over the chicken and sprinkle with the remaining 1 teaspoon of fresh thyme just before serving.
