Description

The Honey Berry Kombucha Smash is a refreshing and vibrant drink combining fresh blueberries and raspberries muddled with kombucha, honey, and a splash of ginger beer. This sparkling beverage offers a perfect balance of sweetness and tanginess, complemented by the herbal notes of fresh mint or basil garnish. Ideal for a healthy, probiotic-rich treat on a warm day.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruits and Sweeteners

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 cup fresh raspberries

Beverages

  • 1 12 ounce bottle kombucha (ginger or strawberry flavor recommended)
  • 4 ounces ginger beer

Garnish

  • Fresh mint or basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Cook Blueberries: Place the blueberries and honey in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes until the blueberries burst and release their juices. Remove from heat and transfer to a jar or bowl.
  2. Muddle Berries: Add the fresh raspberries and about 1/2 cup of kombucha to the cooked blueberries. Muddle the mixture gently with the kombucha until the berries are somewhat smashed but still retain some texture.
  3. Prepare Glasses: Fill two glasses with crushed ice to chill the drinks properly.
  4. Assemble Drinks: Divide the smashed berry and kombucha mixture between the two glasses. Top each glass with additional kombucha, leaving a little space for the ginger beer.
  5. Add Ginger Beer & Garnish: Pour ginger beer on top of each glass, then add a spoonful of the smashed berries mixture to the top. Garnish with fresh mint or basil leaves if desired for a refreshing aroma and appearance.

Notes

  • Use fresh or high-quality frozen berries if fresh are not available.
  • Feel free to adjust the amount of honey to taste for desired sweetness.
  • Ginger or strawberry flavored kombucha pair especially well with the berries and ginger beer.
  • This drink is best served immediately to maintain carbonation and freshness.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, ensure the ginger beer is non-alcoholic.
