Description

A healthy and flavorful turkey meatloaf made with lean ground turkey, seasoned breadcrumbs, and a tangy ketchup-based sauce. This easy-to-make meatloaf is baked to perfection, resulting in a moist and delicious main dish that’s perfect for a family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatloaf Ingredients

  • 1.3 lb ground turkey (99% or 93%, preferred 93%)
  • 1/2 small onion, minced
  • 1/2 cup seasoned whole wheat or gluten-free breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp ketchup (organic recommended)
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the meatloaf.
  2. Prepare sauce: In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of ketchup with Worcestershire sauce to create the topping sauce.
  3. Sauté onion: Heat olive oil in a small skillet over low heat. Add the minced onion and cook gently until translucent, about 3 to 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Mix meatloaf ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine ground turkey, sautéed onions, breadcrumbs, egg, 1/4 cup ketchup, kosher salt, and marjoram. Mix thoroughly but gently to combine all ingredients evenly.
  5. Shape and place: Transfer the meat mixture into a loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a baking sheet. Smooth the top and evenly spoon the prepared sauce over the meatloaf.
  6. Bake: Place the meatloaf in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 55 to 60 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the top is set.
  7. Rest and serve: Remove the meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute. Slice and serve warm.

Notes

  • This turkey meatloaf is a healthy alternative to traditional beef meatloaf, using lean ground turkey for lower fat content.
  • Using seasoned whole wheat or gluten-free breadcrumbs adds texture while keeping it wholesome.
  • The ketchup and Worcestershire sauce topping adds moisture and tangy flavor to enhance the meatloaf.
  • Resting the meatloaf before slicing ensures it stays juicy and holds together well.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste if you prefer spicier or more herbaceous profiles.
