- 7 cups mini marshmallows
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 6 cups puffed rice cereal
Decorations
- 12 ounces bright/light green candy melts
- 6 ounces bright white candy melts
- 2 to 4 tablespoons refined coconut oil or shortening
- Candy eyes
- Black buttercream frosting (see notes on how to make or substitutions)
Instructions
- Prepare Baking Equipment: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Butter or spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
- Melt Butter and Marshmallows: In a medium stock pot over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add the mini marshmallows, salt, and vanilla extract, stirring continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
- Add Cereal: Remove the pot from heat. Stir in the puffed rice cereal until it is completely coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Shape Treats: Press the Rice Krispie mixture firmly into the prepared 9×13 baking dish, smoothing the surface evenly. Allow the treats to cool completely and set up.
- Cut and Decorate: Once cooled, cut the Rice Krispie slab into 24 squares. Melt the bright green and white candy melts with refined coconut oil or shortening as needed for smooth dipping or drizzling. Decorate the squares with candy eyes and black buttercream frosting to create spooky Halloween faces or designs.
Notes
- These treats are festive, fun, and perfect for Halloween parties or quick snacks during the spooky season.
- If you don’t have black buttercream frosting, you can substitute with black gel icing or create a simple frosting with powdered sugar, butter, and black food coloring.
- Refined coconut oil or shortening helps thin the candy melts for easier decoration and a smooth finish.
