Ingredients

Units Scale

Shrimp and Cooking Fats

  • 1 lb raw shrimp
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter, divided
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil

Vegetables

  • 1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 8 oz mushrooms, quartered
  • 1/3 red pepper, cubed
  • 1 1/2 cups medium broccoli florets
  • 3 Tbsp garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp ginger, grated

Stir Fry Sauce

  • 3/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp honey
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp sriracha sauce (or hot sauce)

Optional Garnishes

  • Green onion, chopped
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Cook the Shrimp: In a skillet, heat 1 Tbsp of butter and 1 Tbsp of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the raw shrimp and sauté for about 2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are cooked through. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  2. Sauté Onion: In the same skillet, add another 1 Tbsp of butter and 1 Tbsp of olive oil. Add the finely chopped onion and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until it becomes tender and translucent.
  3. Cook Vegetables: Add 2 Tbsp of butter to the skillet along with the broccoli florets, quartered mushrooms, and cubed red pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables reach your desired level of tenderness.
  4. Add Aromatics: Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger, cooking for an additional 30 seconds to release their fragrant flavors.
  5. Make Sauce and Thicken: While the vegetables cook, whisk together chicken broth, soy sauce, honey, cornstarch, and sriracha sauce in a small bowl. Pour this sauce mixture into the skillet with the vegetables. Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the vegetables evenly.
  6. Combine and Reheat Shrimp: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Stir everything together and let the shrimp reheat in the sauce for a minute or two.
  7. Serve and Garnish: Remove from heat and serve immediately. Optionally, garnish with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds for extra flavor and texture. Enjoy your delicious shrimp stir fry!
