Ingredients
Scale
Shrimp
- 1 pound shrimp (31-40 count size), thawed & peeled
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon flour
- 4-5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1 cup heavy/whipping cream
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prep the shrimp: Rinse the shrimp under cool water if frozen and peel if necessary. Pat them dry thoroughly with paper towels. You may remove the tails if preferred for easier eating.
- Melt butter and create roux: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and cook for about one minute to form a light roux, which will help thicken the sauce.
- Add garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add lemon, cream, and seasoning: Pour in the lemon juice and zest, then add the heavy cream and sprinkle the Italian seasoning. Stir to combine and let the mixture simmer gently for about 2 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Cook the shrimp: Add the shrimp to the skillet. Cook for approximately 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the shrimp turn pink and opaque and the sauce thickens slightly. Adjust heat to prevent over-thickening or rapid bubbling.
- Finish with cheese and parsley: Stir in the freshly grated parmesan cheese and chopped parsley. Remove the skillet from heat and mix well.
- Season and serve: Taste and season with salt and pepper as needed. Serve immediately, ideally with pasta, rice, or crusty bread to soak up the creamy sauce.
Notes
- This recipe comes together quickly, making it ideal for a busy weeknight meal.
- The sauce is rich and creamy; pair the shrimp with a fresh green salad or steamed vegetables for balance.
- You can substitute shrimp size according to preference but adjust cooking times accordingly to avoid overcooking.
- For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half for heavy cream, though the sauce will be less rich.
