Ingredients
Scale
Brownie Base
- 1 box Brownie Mix (serves about 12 brownies)
Decorations
- 1 tub white vanilla icing (about 16 oz)
- Green food colouring (quantity enough to tint icing)
- Small round sprinkles (to taste)
- Small star sprinkles (12 stars, one for each brownie)
- Candy canes (6 to 8, unwrapped and cut into approx 1.5″ pieces)
Instructions
- Prepare the baking pan: Line an 8″ x 8″ baking pan with aluminum foil, making sure it covers all sides for easy removal, then spray the foil with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Make and bake the brownies: Follow the package directions to prepare the brownie mix; pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake as directed on the box. Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the brownies to cool completely, approximately 1.5 hours, to ensure they set properly.
- Cut the brownies: Once cooled, lift the brownies out of the pan using the foil edges. Place on a cutting board and cut into triangles by slicing three rows lengthwise and then cutting diagonally in alternating directions to form tree-shaped pieces.
- Prepare candy cane trunks: Unwrap candy canes and carefully cut or break them into 1.5-inch-long pieces using a sharp knife, which will serve as the trunks for each brownie tree.
- Assemble brownie trees: Press the sharper end of a candy cane piece gently into the bottom of each brownie triangle to mimic the tree trunk.
- Color the icing: Spoon about half of the tub of white vanilla icing into a separate bowl. Add green food colouring gradually until the icing has a vibrant green color suitable for Christmas trees.
- Pipe the icing: Transfer the green icing into a zip-lock bag, seal it tightly, and snip off a small corner of the bag to create a piping bag. Starting at the top of each brownie triangle, squeeze the icing out in a loose zigzag pattern working down to mimic tree branches.
- Decorate: Sprinkle small round sprinkles across the icing to add festive dots of color, then place a small star sprinkle on the top tip of each tree to complete the look.
- Serve and enjoy: Arrange the finished Christmas tree brownies on a festive platter and enjoy your holiday treat!
Notes
- Make sure brownies are completely cooled before cutting and decorating to avoid messy icing and broken brownies.
- Use a sharp knife and gentle pressure when cutting candy canes to avoid shattering.
- You can customize decorations with different sprinkles or edible glitter for extra sparkle.
- Leftover icing can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
- For ease, thaw the icing slightly if refrigerated before tinting and piping.
