Description

Bloomin’ Apples is a delightful baked apple dessert featuring tender, cored apples filled with gooey caramel squares, brushed with a cinnamon and sugar butter mixture, then baked or air-fried to perfection. Served warm with vanilla ice cream and drizzled caramel, this dessert offers a comforting and delicious treat that is easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Apples

  • 4 apples
  • 8 chewy caramel squares

For the Butter Mixture

  • 4 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 Tbsp. packed brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

For Finishing

  • Cooking spray (for greasing baking dish)
  • Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream, for serving
  • Caramel sauce, for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare baking dish and butter mixture: Preheat the oven to 375°F (or set air fryer to 350°F if using). Grease a medium baking dish with cooking spray. In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon until well combined.
  2. Core and slice apples: Slice the top off each apple, then use a corer to remove the core. Use a small spoon to remove any leftover core pieces. Using a paring knife, make two circular cuts around the apple. Place the apple cut side down on a cutting board and slice crosswise carefully, ensuring you do not cut through the core so the apple maintains its shape.
  3. Fill apples and apply butter mixture: Place the cut apples in the greased baking dish (or air fryer basket). Fill each apple cavity with two caramel squares. Brush the butter and sugar cinnamon mixture generously over the top of each apple.
  4. Cook the apples: For oven method, bake the apples at 375°F for approximately 30 minutes or until tender. For air fryer method, cook the apples at 350°F for about 20 minutes until tender.
  5. Serve with toppings: Serve the warm bloomin’ apples with a scoop of Breyers Natural Vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce for extra sweetness and flavor.

Notes

  • If you do not have a corer, carefully use a small knife and spoon to remove the core.
  • Choose firm apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp for the best texture after baking.
  • If you prefer a stronger caramel flavor, try melting extra caramel squares and pouring them over the finished apples.
  • You can prepare this recipe in an air fryer for a quicker cooking time and a slightly caramelized exterior.
  • Adjust the baking time slightly depending on the size and type of apples used.
