Description

Berry Croissant Bake is a delightful and easy-to-make breakfast casserole that combines flaky croissants, mixed berries, and a sweet cream cheese custard. It bakes into a golden, custardy dish reminiscent of a Danish pastry—perfect for brunch or a make-ahead breakfast treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Croissants and Berries

  • 4 large croissants, broken into small pieces (use already baked croissants, not dough)
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • ½ cup blueberries
  • ½ cup raspberries

Cream Cheese Mixture

  • 1 block (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly spray a 9 x 9-inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Arrange croissants and berries: Evenly spread the broken croissant pieces in the baking dish. Distribute all the sliced strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries evenly on top of the croissants.
  3. Prepare cream cheese custard: Using an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese until fluffy. Gradually add the granulated sugar, milk, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing well after each addition until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Combine and chill: Pour the cream cheese mixture evenly over the croissants and berries in the baking dish. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, or up to 14 hours if preparing the night before.
  5. Bake the dish: Remove the cover and bake the casserole in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  6. Serve: Allow to cool slightly, then serve warm. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with syrup before serving. Enjoy this comforting berry croissant bake!

Notes

  • This bake is loaded with berries, sweet cream cheese, and buttery croissants, making it a perfect alternative to Danish pastries.
  • You can prepare the dish the night before by refrigerating it covered, which enhances the flavors and saves time in the morning.
  • Serve warm for the best texture and flavor, optionally topped with powdered sugar or syrup.
