Description

This classic 7 Layer Dip is a flavorful and colorful appetizer perfect for parties and gatherings. It features layers of spicy refried beans, fresh guacamole, seasoned sour cream, chunky salsa, shredded cheese, diced tomatoes, and sliced black olives, served with crunchy tortilla chips.

Ingredients

Scale

Refried Beans Layer

  • 2 (15-ounce) cans Refried Beans (suggest spicy jalapeno)
  • Hot Sauce (optional)

Guacamole Layer

  • 3 to 4 medium Avocados
  • 1 Tablespoon Fresh Lime Juice
  • 2 Tablespoons Chopped Cilantro
  • 1/2 Jalapeno (finely minced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt (more to taste)

Seasoned Sour Cream Layer

  • 1 1/2 cups Sour Cream
  • 2 to 3 Tablespoons Taco Seasoning

Salsa Layer

  • 1 1/2 cups Favorite Salsa (chunky, mild, or hot)

Cheese Layer

  • 2 cups Shredded Cheddar or Mexican Cheese Blend

Fresh Toppings

  • 2 to 3 Roma Tomatoes (chopped)
  • 3 Green Onions (sliced)
  • 1 (2.25 ounce) can Black Olives (drained)

To Serve

  • Tortilla Chips

Instructions

  1. Refried Beans Layer: Stir the refried beans in a bowl to make spreading easier. Optionally, mix in some hot sauce for added spice. Spread the beans evenly on the bottom of your serving dish. You can use them straight from the can or warm them slightly if preferred.
  2. Guacamole Layer: In a bowl, mash together the avocados, fresh lime juice, chopped cilantro, finely minced jalapeno, and salt until chunky and well mixed. Adjust salt to taste. Spread the guacamole evenly over the refried beans layer.
  3. Seasoned Sour Cream Layer: Mix the sour cream with taco seasoning in a bowl, adding a splash of lime juice or chopped cilantro if desired. Spread this mixture evenly over the guacamole layer.
  4. Salsa Layer: Spoon your favorite chunky salsa evenly over the sour cream layer. Choose a thick salsa or pico de gallo to prevent the dip from becoming watery.
  5. Shredded Cheese Layer: Sprinkle shredded cheddar or Mexican cheese blend generously over the salsa layer.
  6. Diced Tomatoes Layer: Chop roma tomatoes and drain any excess juice. Spread the tomatoes evenly over the cheese layer to avoid excess moisture.
  7. Green Onions and Black Olives Topping: Finish by sprinkling sliced green onions and drained black olives over the top of the dip.
  8. Chill and Serve: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve chilled with tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • This dip is perfect for parties and gatherings with its colorful, layered presentation and bold flavors.
  • Use roma tomatoes to reduce moisture and prevent the dip from becoming watery.
  • For a spicier version, add extra jalapenos or hot sauce to the refried beans or guacamole.
  • If you prefer, substitute sour cream with Greek yogurt for a lighter option.
  • This recipe can be easily doubled for larger crowds.
